Call or E-mail Congress Today!
Over the weekend, House Speaker John Boehner walked away from bipartisan negotiations with President Barack Obama in order to continue to push the GOP’s extremist goal of protecting tax loopholes for millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations.
The ongoing Federal budget negotiations are about setting priorities. Whatever happens at the Federal level will have immense consequences for us here in California. That’s why we must stand up and oppose those extremist Republicans pushing for devastating cuts to social security, health care, and various other critical programs and services in order to protect huge tax breaks and loopholes for billionaires and the wealthiest multinational corporations.
House Speaker Boehner and his GOP colleagues are pursuing a path of ideological purity and placing the needs and wants of extremist right-wing interest groups above American families, seniors, and children. That’s why we need to call or e-mail our Members of Congress TODAY and urge them to please hold firm against devastating and life-threatening cuts to vital programs, including Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.

To help you get the conversation started – read the HHS Network’s letter to President Barack Obama outlining our concerns over proposed cuts to Federal health care and human service programs as part of the ongoing deficit reduction negotiations by clicking here.
Here are some key messages/talking points to help you as well:
- I’m calling/writing to ask that you please continue to stand firm against steep cuts to social security, health care, and other vital programs.
- Deep cuts to critical, life-sustaining programs like these will place seniors at grave risk, make it harder for low-income families to access quality, affordable healthcare, and obstruct our nation’s and our state’s much-needed economic recovery.
- There are more viable and humane solutions out there — allowing tax cuts for the wealthy to expire and institute the Schakowsky millionaire tax rates; end tax credits for the oil industry; and institute a Financial Speculation tax.
