Countdown to June 15: Day of Action in the Capitol

9 June, 2011 (18:31) | Grassroots Action | By: HHS Network CA

As the countdown to June 15th continues, hundreds of outraged seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families and children will be demonstrating outside Chase Bank today in Sacramento to remind legislators that while Californians have suffered billions in steep cuts to health care and human services programs, wealthy corporations like Chase Bank have failed to uphold their financial obligations – owing as much as $15.3 million in back-taxes in at least 11 California counties.

Following today’s rally outside Chase Bank, demonstrators will march to the State Capitol Building to urge legislators to pass a responsible budget that maintains existing revenue streams while at the same time voicing their concerns over rumors of a possible spending cap proposal that would lock-in low funding for essential programs and services indefinitely.

If you’re in the Sacramento area – join us today as we make our voices heard for a responsible budget!

See below for event details:

Take Action: Help spread the word on Twitter

Can’t make it to today’s action in the Capitol? No problem! We need your help to spread the word on Twitter using the #cabudget and #cagov hashtags to let legislators, members of the media, and concerned constituents know what’s at stake if we don’t maintain existing revenues.

And to help you get the conversation started – here are a few sample Tweets:

  • Hundreds marching in Capitol to call on legislators to pass #cabudget that maintains existing revenues! #cagov
  • No revenues = more dangerous #cabudget cuts. Enough is enough! California families have suffered enough! #cagov
  • If #cabudget cuts make life worse, then a spending cap will guarantee it never gets better! #cagov
  • CA doesn’t have a spending problem – we have a #cabudget revenue problem! Spending caps force more cuts and inhibit our future. #cagov
  • Pls RT: Spending caps = Endless #cabudget cuts! Don’t “cap” California’s future! #cagov
  • We refuse to accept any more #cabudget cuts when Chase Bank can’t even be bothered to pay back taxes! #cagov
  • Pls RT if you agree: California can’t afford any more tax breaks! Pass a #cabudget with revenues!
  • Pls RT: California suffered $6 bil in #cabudget cuts back in March…on top of $22 bil over last 3 yrs. How much more do we have to suffer?
  • Stand in solidarity with CA families, seniors, people with disabilities & poor kids – pass a #cabudget that maintains revenues! #cagov
  • If #cagov general fund spending has been relatively flat since Ron Reagan was governor – how is that a spending problem? #cabudget
  • You want jobs? You want security? You want a future? Pass a #cabudget with revenues! #cagov
  • #cabudget tax cuts enacted since ‘93 will cost CA more than $13 bil in ‘11-12. We can’t afford NOT to maintain what revenues we have left!
