HHS Network of California: GOP #caBudget Plan is No Solution
May 12, 2011 – Nancy Berlin, executive director of California Partnership, issued the following statement on behalf of the Health and Human Services Network of California in response to Thursday’s release of the legislative Republican’s 2011-12 budget proposal:
“After months of waiting, legislative Republicans have finally released their version of an alternative proposal to Governor Jerry Brown’s compromise budget. Unfortunately, this proposal fails to honestly assess the needs and priorities of the vast majority of Californians, and offers no real solutions whatsoever
Rather than presenting Californians with a realistic set of solutions to balance the state’s $15.4 billion remaining deficit; legislative Republicans have instead produced a budget rife with inconsistencies, cheap budget tricks, and worst of all, an additional $3.2 billion more in spending cuts to social services that put the cross-hairs squarely on the backs of poor children and vulnerable seniors.
While Governor Brown attempted to close the budget with an equal mix of modest revenues and steep cuts, Republicans are once again proposing a budget plan based on an inflammatory and out-of-control ideology, not common-sense. Republicans claimed they could produce a budget proposal without revenues that didn’t hurt California kids and seniors…in that endeavor, they have failed tremendously.”
