Gov-elect Brown to host budget meeting next week

News from the Capitol this week indicated that Governor-elect Jerry Brown will be hosting a special budget meeting in Sacramento on Wednesday, December 8th.

Capitol Alert: Jerry Brown to host budget forum Wednesday, first of three planned events (Dec. 2):

Gov.-elect Jerry Brown is organizing an extraordinary budget forum for Sacramento next week — the first of likely three statewide — to emphasize to lawmakers and the public the severity of California’s fiscal morass.

Brown is expected to invite all legislators to next week’s forum, scheduled to be held Wednesday at Memorial Auditorium, sources said. Legislative leaders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s finance director, Ana Matosantos, are expected to be involved in the event.

According to the Sacramento Bee, the forum is intended to “prepare the Legislature and the public for a January budget proposal in which Brown, facing an estimated $25.4 billion deficit, is almost certain to make highly unpopular recommendations.” (Click here to read more).
Next week’s forum is the first of three planned – another one is expected to take place later in Los Angeles, and a third, focusing on health and human services, is likely to be held in the Bay Area.
