Families, Parents & Kids highlight devastating cuts to child-care at State UN-Fair
Today at the State UN-Fair at the Capitol in Sacramento, kids stole the show! Whether it was spinning the Wheel of Misfortune, tossing Beanbags at the Big 5, playing the budget walk, or Ring-toss to the Republicans, kids had a great time parading and playing games that demonstrated that no-one wins with an UN Fair state budget. At various booths, people could send a pink slip to the legislators, throw shaving cream at a legislative target, get their faces painted, get on the waiting list for popcorn
About 300 people attended the “UN-fair” and there was lots of media coverage. After waiting in the “soup line” for lunch, everyone went into the Capitol to call on legislators, legislative leadership, and staff, bringing real stories of child care centers that are closing, families facing homelessness, and dreams being dashed as the legislature debates how to find the revenues to keep many programs running.
Special thanks: Kidango, Lifetime, Northern California Independent Living Services, Chico Peace & Justice Center, Albany Unified School District, Oakland Parents Together, Woodstock Child Development Center, National Human Development Foundation, and the Parent Voices leaders who came up with the State UN-Fair idea.
Together we will win a family recovery budget that protects jobs, child care and essential services!
